Artifacts

My artifact is the replica graduation tassel that we received at Convocation during our first week of school. I chose this item for a number of reasons. The first is that it was from Convocation, which was one of my first experiences as an Ohio State student. I thought that it was really cool to learn about the school and city and that the entire freshman class was all together. President Drake noted that Convocation would be the only time our entire (or even majority) freshman class was together until graduation.

I also chose this item because of its significance and meaning. As a part of graduation dress, tassels signify graduation and completion of our degree. When I look at the tassel, I am reminded to constantly pursue academic excellence. I also use it as motivation to get through tough assignments and classes, reminding me of end/long-term goal.

About Me

My name is Jeremy Swenson. I am from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey and am a freshman here at Ohio State. At OSU, I am specializing in Accounting and minoring in Economics. Outside of the classroom, my interests revolve around sports and anything related to them. When I started my college search, I never thought that I would end up at a big school, especially as big as OSU. However, when I first stepped on campus, I knew Ohio State was for me. I am currently involved in Accounting Association, MoneyThink, Buckeye Leadership Fellows Foundations, and Business Scholars on campus. In addition to these, I am always looking for more opportunities to get involved. I enjoy supporting the Ohio State athletic teams, especially the football and basketball teams.

Throughout my four years at OSU, I hope to achieve many things like holding a spot on an executive board in one of my student organizations. I also hope to get involved in greek life, either a social fraternity or a business fraternity. Post-OSU, I hope to earn my CPA and get a job at one of the big four accounting firms.
