Second/Third Year STEM EE Scholars Interest Form

Hi Second and Third Year Scholars!

The Leadership Council has been working hard to plan events for this semester, but it would be great if more second and third years got involved! So, if you are interested in being more involved in STEM EE during your second or third year, please fill out this form to let us know!

– Thanks!

Greek Life

Hi Scholars,

With the new semester around the corner, Greek life recruitment is starting as well! Rushing is the process of learning about fraternities and sororities and meeting current members, and many fraternities and sororities begin this during the month of January. You are not obligated to join the fraternity/sorority during or after rushing, and this is a great way to meet people and learn what Greek life is about. I highly recommend you rush, either formally or informally. To read more about Greek life, go to this Ohio Union page.

The four main Greek life governing councils are:
IFC – Interfraternity Council
PHA – Panhellenic Council
MCGC – Multicultural Greek Council
NPHC – National Pan-Hellenic Council

And not all fraternities and sororities are within these organizations; many professional fraternities are unaffiliated.

Most Panhellenic Council (PHA) sororities participate in a formal rushing process where you meet all the PHA sororities but you must register by Jan 8th. Read more at the Panhellenic Council website.
Phi Sigma Rho, a sorority for women in engineering and other sciences, and Alpha Sigma Upsilon (poster), a sorority for women interested in agriculture, participate in a separate informal recruitment from the other PHA sororities.

Most IFC and MCGC fraternities and sororities participate in an informal rush process. To learn more, check out the individual fraternity or sorority pages you are interested in! NPHC also does a formal rush process.

If you have any questions or want to get in touch with someone in a particular organization, feel free to message me at wu.2719@osu.edu. I am personally a member of Triangle Fraternity, a social fraternity for engineering, science, and related majors.

Happy holidays!

Digital Sandbox

Media, Marketing and Communication (MMC) Scholars offers different projects for Honors and Scholars students. The projects range from public speaking, basic graphic design, web, video, and audio production. Project groups are taught by students with prior experience in these areas. This will be a great learning experience for many of you, and can be used as your long-term event for next semester. Visit the MMC Scholar’s page, for the list of projects and schedules.

Note: I had the opportunity to use the MMC Scholars’ VR headset (HTC Vive) this week. It was a great experience.

Reading Day

First- and Second-Year Scholars,

I want to remind you the purpose of today, reading day, a day set aside by the university to study for final exams. This morning, I also set aside some doughnuts in the lobby of Houck and Houston House to motivate you; to get out of bed and study. I know this worked on Norby Fischer!

Final’s week, is one of my most cherished moments of undergraduate. I wish you the best on your studies and success in your finals.

Happy Holidays & Finals

Scholars, I had a wonderful time celebrating the end of the semester with you. I hope you enjoyed the movie, games, photo booth, pizza, hot-chocolate and the cookies, as much as I did. If you would like to see picture of our events, visit the media page. Lastly, I want to wish you success in all of your finals and happy holidays. Cheers!

Holiday Party

Your peer, Kristen Buzaki, first-year scholar, suggested to have a holiday party, to celebrate all holidays in this time of year. The event will be hosted on December 4th from 2:00PM to 5:00 PM at Houston, Room 1875.

There will be food along with festivities. The Leadership Council is also thinking about different activities (i.e. watching a movie, board games, crafts) but are accepting suggestions. The attire will be Holiday-Wear (e.g. formal, business casual or holiday themed). Please RSVP, by clicking here.
