Sibs and Kids Weekend

Sibs and Kids Weekend is an Ohio State tradition that allows students, faculty and staff to invite brothers, sisters, children, nieces, nephews, cousins or friends of the family to the campus to experience life through the eyes of a Buckeye.

What are the perks of participating? You can catch a tennis game, tour North Market, play laser tag at the RPAC and learn how to cook delicious food from culinary experts, just to name a few! There are events appealing to all age ranges and interests, so take advantage of as many as possible this weekend. The full calendar of events is available online.

The events will be held from March 27-29, 2015. Registration is only $5 per guest. The small fee pays for access to most of the events (a few require an additional fee), as well as a free gift for those who pre-register.

Whether you’re a host who lives on campus or a first time visitor, this weekend will doubtless be a great opportunity to explore the community and the university  from a different perspective.

Women’s Day 2015 in the Ohio Union

Did you know that women in the United States earn an average of 77 cents for every dollar a man makes?  Although huge strides have been made towards equality between men and women, there remains much to be done. Limitations such as the wage gap put women at a disadvantage for their entire lives. For example, single mothers are more at risk of poverty than any other demographic.

With that in mind, mark your calendars for March 8 because it’s International Women’s Day! A little known holiday, Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900s. To celebrate this holiday, the annual Unplugging Society’s Women’s Tea will be hosted in the Cartoon Room in the Ohio State Union on Monday, March 9. The event “honors women within Columbus who are truly impacting the community in which we live. The purpose of the tea is to recognize these women and to award them for their efforts.” For more information, click here.

Celebrating Women Through the Arts: Reception and Performance in the Ohio Union.

The political, economic and social status of women around the world has often been threatened by historical and cultural inequality. International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate the achievements and impact that women in our community here at Ohio State and around the world have made. Every woman deserves respect and equality, and this holiday serves as a reminder to us all – so tell the women in your life how much you appreciate them.
