About Me

General Information:

Hello! I am a graduate of Wooster High School, and a member of OSU’s class of 2019.  I’m in the Politics Society and Law Scholars Program, and am currently majoring in Political Science. I am considering adding a second major of either Economics or Globalization Studies.

Meaningful High School Experiences:

Given that I’m a first year student, I don’t have many things to say about college yet. What I can discuss are the experiences in high school that shaped me into the person and student I am today.

Perhaps the most meaningful and influential high school experience I have is my time as a member and captain of the Speech & Debate Team. My senior year I won the state championship in policy debate, as well as taking home the award for the best speaker in Policy Debate in the state of Ohio. What made this moment so special wasn’t the shiny plaques, nor the auditorium booming with applause. This moment was special because the pinnacle of my aspirations had been reached; the goal I set for myself four years ago achieved. This moment was the culmination of years of hard work and self-betterment. It is for this reason my time in debate was so meaningful; I was able to prove to myself that hard work does indeed pay off in the end, despite circumstantial obstacles. Debate developed my tireless work ethic, my passion for knowledge, and my drive for success; all of which are now integral to my academic life and professional aspirations.

Who I Am:

Typically people characterize me by my easy-going nature, and my sense of humor that finds its way into many of my personal interactions. Often when adults from my hometown meet me for the first time, they are surprised by this, given that most in the community know me as, “Ben Snoddy: The Debater;” a title connoted with being argumentative and stubborn. I suppose my chumminess is a breath of fresh, unexpected air! Personally, I enjoy playing, making, and listening to music. I play the guitar, piano, and drums, and have for most of my life. I am also somewhat of a movie buff, and enjoy watching a good film with friends.

Professional Aspirations:

I have considered many potential careers, and hope to narrow down my list in the upcoming four years. I have considered going to law school and becoming a lawyer. I have also thought about working in Washington, either on capitol hill, in The White House, or in a lobbying firm. Lastly, I have thought about remaining in academia and teaching at the college level, while doing social science research. All of these are possibilities I will be considering as I embark on the journey of obtaining a college education.
