As a former social psychology academic, I made the transition to the business world, into the field of marketing research. In my talk, I will discuss the two career paths of academic social psychology and marketing research and how they interact. I will start with a description of what marketing research is, and the types of activities that these professionals undertake. That will be followed by a detailed review of the pros and cons of the two careers and the skill sets that social psychologists have (and don’t have) that qualify them for jobs in marketing research.
