DRAFT 3.9.17 Santiago Spring Break 2017 Itinerary: Program fee includes international airfare, 2 person hotel rooms (breakfast included), all admissions, all in country travel, several group meals, supplementary international health insurance.

3.9.17 DRAFT Itinerary, 10 March 2017 – 19 March 2017

Itinerary as follows (subject to change). *bring BIP metro card on these days

Hotel Diego Velázquez: Guardia Vieja 150, Santiago 8320000, Chile (052) 2 2234 4400

Breakfast provided at hotel, all lunches on your own, 3 group meals, + 1 snack

Metro cards will be provided preloaded with 7000 pesos (additional funds can be added)

Friday 10 March 2017

  • 11.30 am: arrive for chartered OSU bus leaving campus to airport or
  • 12 pm: arrival at assigned meeting place at Columbus airport if arriving separately
  • 3.15 pm: AA 1332 to Dallas Forth Worth arriving 5.10 pm (Central Time Zone)
  • 8.15 pm: AA 945 to Santiago arriving 8.39 am (Santiago time, until 3/12/17 Two hours earlier than EST)
  • Lunch and dinner on your own

Saturday 11 March 2017 (Intro to Santiago)

  • 8.39 am: arriving Santiago (Santiago time, until 3/12/17 2 hrs earlier EST, then 1 hour earlier EST rest of trip)
    • Charter coach to hotel, drop off luggage
  • 10.30-1 pm: Santiago and hotel area orientation & lunch in hotel area
  • 1 pm: depart for Cerro San Cristobal by private coach
  • 1.30-3.15: take funicular or cable car up to top of San Cristobal, explore the park
  • 3.30-5: depart for Park de la Infancia at the bottom of the fenicular, return by coach to the hotel
  • Evening: free for exploration/resting
  • Lunch and dinner on your own

*Sunday 12 March 2017 (Walking tour/analysis downtown; urban/street design)

  • 9         Depart by Metro* on Red Line to La Moneda station
  • 9-12:   Exploring (not visiting paid exhibits) Moneda Cultural Center, Plaza de Constitucion and  Cuidadania, admission to Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino
  • 12-1.30: lunch on your own
  • 1.30:   Meet to explore Santiago Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, analyze downtown streets and plazas           group assignment, return to hotel on your own (or with a group leader at a set time)
  • 6.45:   meet just outside of hotel lobby for group dinner in at Santa Pizza, set menu with options

 Monday 13 March 2017 (Modern and Contemporary Architecture and Landscape Architecture)

recommend to bring snacks for a late lunch this day

  • 8.30 am:       Depart private coach for day trip to:
  • 9.30-10.30:    Benedictine Monastery Las Condes
  • drive by Smiljan Radic House for Two brothers (Calle Colina Vista Hermosa 2316-2334)
  • 10.30-11.15: Drive to University Adolfo Ibanez School of Architecture
  • 11-11.45:       University Adolfo Ibanez School, short visit first to undergraduate school
  • 11.45-12 pm: Drive to Adolfo Ibanez Graduate School/Design Lab for short tour/exploration
  • Late lunch (2pm): Group lunch at Mestizo Restaurant, set menu with options
  • 4-5:                Explore Bicentenario Park, return hotel by bus or on your own (Costanera Tower)
  • Dinner on your own

*Tuesday 14 March 2017 (Urban Campus Tour)

  • 9-12:    Depart by metro to San Joaquin Green line station for Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC) Campus San Joaquin, visit Torres Siamesas and Innovation Center
  • 122.15 lunch and return to hotel on your own, 2.15 meet outside of hotel lobby to walk to PUC Lo Contador Campus
  • 2.30-5.30: visit PUC Lo Contador Campus (Architecture and Urban Design), analysis assignment
  • Lunch and dinner on your own

Wednesday 15 March 2017 (Valparaiso) ** bring 60 degree weather clothing, recommend to bring snacks for a late lunch this day

  • 7.45 am meet outside hotel lobby for private coach trip to Valparaiso
  • 10 am    Visit to Pablo Neruda house, half group visits while other sketches, then reverse
  • After Neruda house: 2 hour walking tour of the Hills Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Alegre
  • Drive to Vina del Mar
  • 2-4.30: Lunch in Vina del Mar, time at the pier or beach
  • 6 pm scheduled return to hotel
  • Lunch and dinner on your own

 *Thursday 16 March 2017 (Museums and firm visit)

  • 10 am: Depart by metro to Quinta Normal station, visit Park Quinta Normal and Museum of Memory (no entrance), return to hotel on your own
  • Afternoon: free time to work on sketching/final project and/or visit a museum of student’s choice, return to hotel on your own
  • 6.15 pm: meet outside of hotel lobby for 6.30 Group dinner, Liguria Restaurant in Tobalaba, set menu with options
  • Lunch on your own 

Friday 17 March 2017 (Free day)

  • Free Day, if going out of Santiago let Aimee, Troy or Christine know your plans
  • lunch and dinner on your own

 *Saturday 18 March 2017 (Cultural Centers/Markets and departure)

  • 9.30 am Check out of hotel, pay hotel bill if any balance, check luggage with porters
  • 10 am: depart by metro for VEGA Market, enter (no admission) Mapocho Cultural Center
  • Afternoon: options: time to work on projects or Cultural center visits possible: Central Cultural Matucana 100, NAVE Cultural Center, Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (perhaps not all)
  • 5.45 pm: Depart hotel for private coach to airport for 9.30 pm AA 940 flight to DFW
  • Lunch and dinner on your own

Sunday 19 March 2017

  • 5.18 AM: arrive DFW, proceed through customs
  • 11.15 am: AA 1163 DFW flight to CMH arriving 2.35 pm
  • No return bus to OSU scheduled
