Almost the end

Day five & six

These two days we went to lots of beautiful place. Yesterday we went to the Valparaiso, an awesome beach town. We first went to the Pablo Neruda’s house, La Sebastiana, which was a small but wonderful house. All the collections inside the house had their own history and story and it made the house more meaningful and unique. There is a Moai scruple next to the window I second floor, and I think it is a interesting moment that the house eventually having something about Chilean instead lots of the collections from other countries. After that we having a two hours walk of the neighbor, all the arts were so special and colorful and I really enjoyed the tour. And we ended up the day on the beach which was a nightlight of this trip.

Today we first go to the cathedral that we can’t go inside last time. Then we go to the museum of memory, it is a meaningful museum which make we feel really heavy but amaze at the same time by the history. The space on second floor is the best place of the museum. Surrounding by the plastic rolls that symbolize the candle, and the glass wall showing the reflection of it which make the place looks like surrounded by the candles. After that we walking on the street and there are some art market which I find lots of fun stuff. And we also go to the park and spend some time to sketch. Can’t wait for tomorrow and I hope I will survive after the nine hours hiking.

  1. I agree with how you feel about Valapariso, it was such a beautiful city. I loved the rows of colorful buildings on the hill. I liked your analysis of the Pablo Neruda house, I also agree that the individual artifacts throughout his house made it more unique and meaningful, as each one had their own stories. I also really enjoyed looking at the street art, and thought that the street art blended well with the colorful buildings. The tour and Viña Del Mar beach were also highlights of the trip for me.

I didn’t go into the Museum of Memory, so it was interesting to read what you thought of it. Also, the symbolism of the candle in the museum seems very compelling. I also really enjoy the street markets and seeing the art from local artists. I’m glad that we both survived the hike in the Andes!

  2. Great pictures Tamina! You always take really well done photos, I’ve loved scrolling through them on this trip. I thought the same thing while visiting La Sebastiana. I thought that it was interesting that Pablo Neruda filled his house with objects from all over the world. I saw this with the English sink that he put on the top floor that he never connected and also the the closet for his wife’s clothes that had the Asian theme to it. My favorite part of the house was the tile work in the bathrooms. The color of the tiles also mimicked the bright colors that were of the buildings that covered the hills of Valparíso. I loved the use of all the bright colors of the buildings, something that I’m not used to seeing back home. The room with the candle looking lights was very cool looking. At first I thought that the lights were candles and then I realized that they were actually crystal like looking objects. I wonder if this has actual significance or if was just part of the design of the museum. El parque forestral was a great place to sketch at. I thought it was cool that the street dogs would bark and scare away the people that came up to us to ask us for money. Also ps, happy that you went with us on the four hour hike instead of the nine hour one. I doubt we could have made it that long on the trail.
