Then, the company would distribute the spice to grocery stores all over the world. Though prices vary throughout the world market, saffron is the most expensive spice usually being sold for the equivalent of $6.79 per gram and $73.95 per ounce.

This steep price means that it is usually only consumed by wealthier people. In the U.S. it can be seen in a lot of high end dishes. Saffron is also seen in a lot of Indian cuisine because they are not allowed to export the saffron that is grown there. This makes it a little cheaper and so more people are able to enjoy the spice.
