Artifact

This semester I joined a Pre-Health Sorority at OSU, Delta Omega Kappa. I am extremely excited for the people and opportunities that are now open to me as a member in this academic sorority. Finding a group of such generous, talented and kind hearted people would have been impossible to find outside of the walls of the DOK house. Studying as a Pre-Med student is a very challenging and disheartening process and now having 80+ girls who I know will drop everything to help me through a class, find a research opportunity, or prepare for the MCAT together is a very comforting feeling. I am so glad I decided to rush DOK this semester and I very excited for my future in the sorority.

Image result for survival in auschwitz

This is a book I read in a German Literature class I took last semester. Survival in Auschwitz is just one of many books and movies we used in class and it is representative of all the stories and lessons I was able to learn. Before taking this class, I thought I understood the Holocaust but looking back I never could have imagined all there was still to learn. I am grateful for the new appreciation I have for this part of history and every story the survivors have to tell.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. To get answers to specific questions, please email eportfolio@osu.edu. Delete these instructions and add your own post.]

G.O.A.L.S.

Through my undergraduate career as Mount Scholar, the honors and scholars program has taught me to reflect on how the way I spend my time and my interests now all shape my future self.

Through my Service and STEP class, I continually increase my awareness of diversity in the world. I look forward to continuing to develop my appreciation of diversity and each individual’s unique differences through my travel in the STEP program and tutoring in Columbus schools.

I plan to develop original inquiry through assisting a professor on a research project this upcoming year.

I also am always looking for ways to enrich my academic experience. Experiences just as research, internships, and finding a mentor within my major are all ways I hope to extend my breadth of knowledge beyond the classroom.

I have taken roles as a leader in multiple organizations thus far in my college experience. I am a college mentor for Kindergarten Corps tutoring and College Mentor for Kids where I practice leading in group settings and organize and prepare for group activities. I also am a leader for other employees through my position at work.

I have always enjoyed and found service opportunities working with kids. I have kept my service engagement strong at OSU while volunteering with Gahanna School, College Mentors, and West Broad Elementary serving the Columbus community.

Career

As a first-year student, I began classes with the goal to earn a double major in Business and Psychology. Near the end of my 2nd semester, my career goals shifted and I have spent this year focusing on what I need to do to achieve my new goals. I am currently working towards a degree in Business and a minor in Psychology on the Pre-Med track. This summer I plan to stay in Columbus and work as a PCA or Mental Heath Specialist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital while taking classes through the summer semester. Additionally, I am completing my training as an Addiction Recovery Facilitator for the SMART Recovery organization. I will lead group addiction recovery education sessions in hopes of providing support and resources for attendees through their recovery process. I am also involved in research through the College of Public Health at OSU studying the long term effects of habitual use of e-cigarette devices on the mental and physical body. I am looking forward to carrying this research into future years and advancing through my science curriculum.

Artifacts

The first artifact fact that I am choosing is my Mount Leadership Society pin. As a first year I chose Mount as my scholars program and it is the perfect fit for me. I love the people I have met through Mount and well as the values Mount Scholars uphold. I have learned, and will continue to learn, skills of leadership, compassion and generosity and hope to carry these values, as well as my involvement in Mount, through my 4 years at OSU. In the future, I plan to complete the two year plan for Mount and “graduate” with my scholars class.

About Me

Hi, my name is Clara and I’m from Mentor, Ohio. I am a double major, studying marketing and psychology. In high school I was a cheerleader and I ran track in the spring. My favorite events were high jump and 300 meter hurdles. I am hoping to get involved in a business fraternity at Fisher and possibly in a sorority within the next year. At OSU I also plan to be involved in the club dance team.
