Week 5

The group scored a few designs in order to determine which designs should be used for the final design of the project. These were scored based on 7 different factors of which only a few were able to be seen through testing and many of them had to be extrapolated from hypothesizing.

Firstly, to compare the performance of the sample AEV and the AEV from the team’s design, the group programmed the AEV sample on the straight test track using the scenario provided in the lab manual. Due to lack of materials, the group decided to work on a fifth design as shown in Figure 1.(not sure if we have it) and performed a concept screening on each of the design from Lab 4 based on the fifth design. After assembling the AEV design, the group tested the AEV on the straight track using the same scenario. It is observed that the AEV design has stable structure and does not lean to one side. However, the AEV was unable to go forward as the location of both propellers does not support the movement of the AEV. The propellers were placed too close to each other and the rotation of the propeller could not proceed. It can be said that the team’s AEV design is less efficient compared to the sample AEV.

Team meeting notes

Date: 22 – Feb – 2017

Time: 5:00 pm (Face to Face)

Members Present: All

Topics Discussed: Lab proficiency quiz and Project portfolio

_________________________________________________________

Objective: Determine how to best ensure everyone is ready for the lab proficiency quiz and how to structure the Project Portfolio

_________________________________________________________

To do/Action Items:

– Get everyone to have an account able to access the project portfolio

– Test everyone on the basics of the lab proficiency quiz

_________________________________________________________

Decisions: The team needs to all be able to access and edit the project portfolio before the upcoming lab. And the team seems to be alright with the lab quiz.

_________________________________________________________

Reflections: The team needs to look further into the future to be ready for upcoming assignments in order to be more ready to work on the assignments as they come up.
