We are excited to welcome you to The Ohio State University. As a new student, there are steps you must take to be able to enroll in courses, receive university emails, and keep up-to-date on your academic progress. Below are instructions on how to begin this process and more information on the technology platforms that you will be using as a student in the College of Nursing.
Activate your OSU Username and Email
If you are new to OSU, you will need to activate your username and email, which serve as your connection to your academic record, progress, and enrollment in the university. Please visit my.osu.edu to activate your account. After activating your student account, proceed to check your student email commonly called Buckeyemail.
This video will guide you through learning about osu.edu vs buckeyemail.osu.edu vs osumc.edu (if you have that).
**You are required to check your Ohio State email daily. There are no exceptions to this requirement.** (Note that Carmen system has an email, but that is separate from the Ohio State email)
The university will routinely send official communications to your university email address. Ohio State recently changed their email forwarding policy so the Buckeyemail student email (@buckeyemail.osu.edu) can no longer be forwarded to a personal account. Those students who are also employees of Ohio State have an employee email (@osu.edu), which is also not linked to the Buckeyemail account. Additionally, employees of the OSU Wexner Medical Center have an OSUWMC account (@osumc.edu), which is not connected.
You may also call the OIT Help Desk at 614-688-HELP (4357), email them at 8help@osu.edu, check the websites www.8help.osu.edu or use your my.osu.edu website to check where your email is being forwarded and what options there are.
Computer Hardware and Software Requirements
The College of Nursing IT team has compiled a list of computer hardware and software requirements for students. If you have any questions about the recommendations
in the document, or if you need technical support, please contact con–s–help@osu.edu.
Students are expected to have a computer meeting minimum technology requirements in order to participate in classes. You will find the technology requirements linked below in the nursing student technology services site.
Questions regarding technology can be sent to our Information Technology team at Con-S-Help@osu.edu.

Buckeye Link
BuckeyeLink serves as an online academic student center, where you will register for courses, run your degree audit, manage university payments, and update your personal contact information. You can explore this site at buckeyelink.osu.edu. Please access Buckeyelink and check your personal contact and financial information for accuracy.
Carmen (Canvas)
Carmen.osu.edu, also called Carmen, is our portal for your coursework. On the day classes begin, you will go to this site and view your course list. The system behind Carmen is called “Canvas” so you may see it as such. You are encouraged to also download the “Canvas Student” application to your smart device to keep on top of coursework. If you have any questions about using Carmen, please refer to the Carmen Resource Center.
