Software Publishers

Software Publishers are similar to developers and sometimes the same companies take part in both.
Publishers again can be either First or Third party companies. These companies take the developed software and run it through tests like debugging before the product is finished. Sometimes publisher use in house developers to design their games. In house developers are companies that have been acquired by the bigger company to work specifically on games within that company. An example of this can be seen in Nintendo. Nintendo has multiple in house game developers which include are 1-Up Studios, Monolith Studios, Intelligent Systems, Nd Cube, and Retro Studios. These developers all help develop first party games for Nintendo for example Retro Studios helps develop the Donkey Kong Country series. After the games are developed Nintendo then publishes the game. Nintendo also partners with developers in order to make other first party titles. Game Freak is one of the developers that Nintendo partners with and they helped develop the popular Pokemon series (Nintendo). Whether the game is developed by first or third parties they get sent to the bigger publishers which then decide if the game is complete and good enough to go on the main consoles. The publishers have the most say in what goes into the software with what they want to be in it and what they want it to look like.Once the software is finished it becomes one of the components that goes into making the console or the game disk.
