Software Developers

Software Developers are the companies that develop the Software for the consoles and the games. Software developers can be within the First Party company or Third Party. First Party developers are the main console companies like Nintendo who develop games like Mario for their own console. Third Party developers are companies like Bethesda who make games like the Elder Scrolls series for the main consoles. There are many companies that go into developing and many of the bigger Third Party companies also publish games using other third party companies to help develop the game. Once the software is finished the game software is sent to one of the platform providers in order for them to test if the game is suitable for use on the console. Once it is sent to the company the software is put through a debugging process in order to see if the game is ready to be sold on the main console. A recent example of this happening is with the game Minecraft. Minecraft is a game that originated on the PC but has come to the main consoles the first being the PS3 and XBOX360. When the game went to be made for the current consoles it had to be remade for the new hardware and once it was thought to be done it was sent to Sony first and then Microsoft. Unfortunately for the developers when it went through Sony’s debugging process it failed and had to be sent back until 4J Studios(the developers of Minecraft) could send the game back to be tested again(Liebl). Software Developers need to listen to customers in order make the best product possible. This can be seen in updates after the games and consoles are released. Many times developers release updates to improve the game. These updates can be either balance patches for things in games that are unfair or things like interface to make the game easier to use. Minecraft again can be used as a good example of this as they constantly release updates for their games to both fix bugs or add things like horses to the main game. These changes can and are influenced by interaction with consumers.  This interaction with the consumer makes the video game industry go very far as their products constantly are improved with feedback which causes games to continue to be influenced heavily by what the majority of consumers want.
