After the product is Manufactured it goes through distribution.Since gaming is an international business their products are shipped all over the world. The biggest market for the gaming distribution are the U.S., China, and Japan with many European Countries also being big markets (Top 100).For consoles the main distributors are Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. These companies are also responsible for promoting their products and introducing it to the consumers. The sales and success can be seen through the promoting of the consoles before they hit the retailers. For example the Xbox One and PS4 have very similar hardware Specs and what people are going to buy is basically based on preference.Promoting consoles are mainly done at gaming conventions like E3 or through special presentations done throughout the year. Before consoles are released consumers have an option to pre-order one or both of the consoles. The Wii U being the first to be released in 2012 had over 250,000 units pre-ordered by the time of its release(Cavalli). This number is relatively low and this is because many of the consumers thought it would just be a slightly upgraded Wii. Since many gamers do not prefer to use motion controls this perception caused many people not to pre-order the console. the PS4 and XBOX One both released in November of 2013. The PS4 had around 720,000 pre-orders with the XBOX One trailing at 520,000 (Sarachik). Even though the consoles are similar the difference in pre-orders can be explained due to the promoting both companies did. At the 2013 E3 both companies made presentations about their consoles and it was seen by consumers that Sony made a much better presentation in showing the features then Microsoft did. This caused perception that the PS4 was better causing more people to pre-order it. This promoting and pre-order numbers also helps companies know where to distribute their consoles more depending on feedback and what areas have more interest in certain consoles. With this data, the main companies calculate how much to manufacture then ship the consoles from the main companies to the retailers.
