Columbus To-Do List

Columbus To-Do List

From the options off the Columbus to-do list, I chose the neighborhood list. I am very much looking forward to seeing more of the areas of Columbus, particularly German Village. I am also very excited to explore the coffee shops and other unique shops of the different neighborhoods. From this experiment, I hope to learn more about the areas of Columbus. I also want to learn more about how to navigate through the city using public transportation. From this to-do list, I want to explore and find spots that I would want to visit again and also find quiet places off campus that would be nice to study.

For my first neighborhood, I visited German Village.

German Village

I visited German Village with Stevie Lohbeck and Anna Cotterman who are also humanitarian engineers. We took the bus to German Village and walked from the bus stop to the Book Loft. We probably spent an hour at looking at books deciding what to get. I spent most of my time in the science section and ended up buying two books. I love books and would definitely go back again. After Book Loft, we went next door to Stauff’s coffee roasters. I was very excited that they had a large selection of coffee grounds that I could purchase because they had roasts that aren’t available at Kroger or other grocery stores. I also liked Stauff’s because there were a lot of tables set up and it was quiet enough that it would be a good place to study. Before we left German Village we took the time to stop and look at the architecture and admired the buildings. One of the most memorable moments was when we stopped at Kroger on the way back and I dropped my phone on the concrete by the bus stop and shattered it. Overall, it was a fun trip and I would definitely take the time to go back to German Village.

Downtown

For the second neighborhood. My roommates and I visited the downtown area and visited COSI. We were able to get in for free because it was the Friday of parents weekend. When we first got there, our entourage went to the Ocean exhibit. While we were there, we participated in many of the water activities, including spending about 25 minutes trying to make a dam out of sand. As we left the Ocean exhibit, the 3 of us all fit into the submarine which was certainly not made for 3 full size people. After that exhibit, we walked around and looked at some of the smaller fun exhibits in the hallways. At one point we looked at an optical illusion for 10 minutes. Finally, we ended our night by going to the mezzanine and riding the unicycle. Overall, it was a fun experience. I have been there many times but it was enjoyable to go with my friends.

Short North- Nida’s Thai on High

I went with a fairly large group to Nida’s Thai on High to celebrate one of the member’s birthday. We took the bus there and it took about twenty minutes to get there. I had never been to a Thai place so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. My meal was very good. I had fried fish battered Thai style with vegetables and rice all in sweet and sour sauce. It was very good food and not too spicy which was good for me. After dinner, we all went to Simply rolled ice cream for dessert. By this time, I was freezing and was too cold for ice cream, but everyone else enjoyed their food. By the time we were finished, it was just after 10, so the bus schedule was starting to run less frequently. As a result, we ended up standing outside the bus stop for twenty minutes in freezing weather. Despite the cold, the trip was worth attending. It was worthwhile to try new food and explore the Short North.
