G.O.A.L.S.

G.O.A.L.S. Statement

To become a genuinely good, holistic individual and student, one must be diverse in studies and experiences that broaden global awareness, promote original inquiry, provide academic enrichment, demonstrate leadership development, and spark service engagement. To fulfill each pillar of success, I plan to do the following:

For broadening my global awareness and horizon, I have the aspiration to travel abroad. I have gone back and forth between traveling abroad to third world countries to spread elementary music education to schools or volunteering at makeshift clinics in Africa or the Middle East.

To promote original inquiry, I plan to indulge myself in research here at Ohio State and/or the Cleveland Clinic. I have taken steps towards this goal by meeting with lab directors here at Ohio State and contacting the Cleveland Clinic brain oncology center in the hopes of being an assistant to some of the top medical researchers of the world this summer.

To be provided academic enrichment, I made promises to myself to be the best student I can be and remind myself that my best is all I can do. It is impeccable that I do not procrastinate nor be lackadaisical. It is also important to show up to class, to do practice problems, and to prepare before and after lectures. I also will be taking classes that I am truly passionate about and will fully engage in.

To demonstrate leadership development, I plan to capitalize on the multiple leadership positions I have attained in the past. As an Eagle Scout, I have developed a sense of duty to God, duty to self, and duty to others.I will strive to continue that through college by joining organizations on campus and reaching out into the community to build upon my leadership skills. I have already joined the Undergraduate Neuroscience Outreach Organization and have been elected Outreach Chair.

Lastly I will spark service engagement by being ambitious and being driven by passion to help and genuinely care for people. First, I plan to volunteer clinically at a dermatologist office back in Cleveland and potentially a local hospital in Columbus. Second, I aspire to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald house for children and/or the American Red Cross. Furthermore I want to find a food pantry and/or a adult mental disability home car facility to continue my service I did in high school because I was passionate and loved every minute of it doing both.

About Me

Eric Reinhart is a current freshman at The Ohio State University pursuing a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Music. He was born and raised in North Ridgeville, Ohio, a western suburb of Cleveland. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School located in downtown Cleveland, he has come to Ohio State to fulfill his passions of clinical counseling and to continue his passion for music and the fine arts. As an Eagle Scout in the class of 2013, he has shaped his professional and social development around the core principles of duty to God, duty to self and duty to others.

Eric has a strong desire to enter the medical field. He is currently working along the pre-medical track in hopes to be accepted to medical school. In past experiences, Eric has been involved in the L’Arche community in Cleveland, which tends to the needs of mentally disabled adults. He also took part in an unpaid internship with Dr. Paul Hazen, a very successful dermatologist, who is one of very few dermatologists doing clinical work and research with the uncommon skin disease of Hidradentis Suppurativa (HS). During this internship, Eric helped Dr. Hazen conduct research. The journal article is still pending.

Eric also has a strong desire and passion for the Arts. He gained valuable leadership experience as president of both the band program in high school and the St. Ignatius High School Circus Company. He has taken great pride in the original compositions and arrangements of famous music he has written, about five total. He has also been a part of community theater productions of famous musicals and sings often. He continues this passion today and hopes to incorporate it into his professional career.
