End Of The Year Spring Project!

ARCH SPRING PROJECT E&DW

This is the link to my Spring Project for ARCH Scholars! This was an amazing experience and I’m going to continue with my Spring Project because the grind doesn’t stop and the sky is never the limit that’s a fixed mindset if you believe you can go higher, achieve higher you will never settle for just the sky you will surpass even the sky with having a growth mindset!

~ Ronald Raine Jr / Freshman Year / Class of 2023

Journal #3 – Ronald Raine Jr.

My interest are to focus on a fun academic and leadership skills event, because coming from a school in Akron, Ohio really helped me hone my leadership and development skills as well as my academics. I want to help out my fellow peers and the understanding of academic and leadership challenges and I want them to be aware of the challenges of future employers hiring them that they look for specific qualities in certain people. Which you have to meet those requirements for the employers to be able to hire you.

My Project will align with the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S because I want to accomplish “Academic Enrichment & Leadership Development” with my project. I want to host an event that will be able to help first years & upperclassmen that significance of Academic Enrichment and Leadership Development. I want them to be able to understand that they need to hone their leadership skills and show determination that anything is possible. I want them to show that they are a leader who is still able to focus on their academics and succeed.

I plan to begin my project after winter break because I want to take this time off for winter break to ease my mind. This fall semester has been really stressful for me, I came into this semester thinking everything will be easy and therefore I wouldn’t have to study. I was completely wrong, I came into this semester with a fixed mindset. I didn’t realize that would have lead to my downfall of where I am currently at with my academics. During, this time period I have been developing myself into a better scholar and started to have a growth mindset. Currently, at the end of this semester I am going to finish strong and I could possibly get a 3.2 GPA. I won’t be able to get that without my hard work and dedication.

During winter break there are opportunities to start working on my project. The first step is being able to contact my RA and get advice from them, of what I should talk about in the presentation for scholars and staff. I want them to be able to help me host a floor event or even a whole building event in Torres. The second step is being able to set up a presentation and ordering food options. I want to be able to discuss with my RA what food I would like to buy for the building or for my floor and then be able to execute the presentation to my floor or building in a well-mannered fashioned way.

I plan to meet these steps in February of 2020. I want to participate in the Spring Project because I feel like this would be a great way to see how I would do executing a great presentation that will be able to help out first years such as myself know how to manage their academics and their leadership skills for their future years at THE Ohio State University.

Thank you,

Columbus To-Do List: Part 2

The remainder of experiences I felt like I had to change them because I wanted to do something different once I found out there was places I actually wanted to go to. I went to Melt Bar & Grill and Risky Frizz and I would definitely recommend going to both places because they are both super good. Risky Frizz is a place where you can pick candy from all different variety of brands and also soda. There is soda’s their that I would have never imagined drinking any of them.

There were so many great brands and even familiar brands that I seen. Their was candy I never tasted before and old candy that I wanted to try, but I could never eat it because my mother was too stubborn and didn’t want me to get cavities. Melt Bar & Grill I wouldn’t recommend the Chicken & Waffles because I didn’t enjoy eating that at all. I would have thought their would be chicken wings and waffles by their self but they put it all together on a toasted cheesy bun which I did not enjoy. I would recommend trying the other options but on the menu and look for something that is familiar. I should have just went with the classic all American burger instead. My favorite part of this project was being able to enjoy walking around Columbus and being able to see a different city. I am originally from Akron and there isn’t that many places to go to in Akron. When I found out Columbus would have a lot of places to go to, I was excited to go and try out new things that I wouldn’t even imagine doing. My favorite dessert place is Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream because it is just so good and I really love eating ice cream from there. I learned that Columbus is a super fun place to go explore. I would have never thought of Columbus being this much fun since I got to college. Not only can I study for my academics, I can go have fun on the weekends or even throughout the day when I’m done with classes. I learned that Columbus really isn’t a scary place to go explore because when you go explore this place that you are unfamiliar with starts to feel like home. Usually when people come to this campus, they say “This is a big campus” but once you get use to it, it doesn’t feel like a huge campus that others say it is. I want to explore more foods, and would recommend learning about the different places where you can go learn about art and music because that’s something that I still want to do and I also want to go to museums as well. I can’t wait to keep exploring and having fun in Columbus because this is really a great place to be and a place where you can feel truly welcomed. This is a place we’re it will eventually become home so just go out and explore and have a great time with friends and trust me you do not want to miss these great experiences!

Columbus To-Do List Part 1 ~ Ronald Raine Jr.

I chose to do the Thematic List. I chose this because I wanted to see what was really around campus and what could possibly be fun and eat well. I wanted to go to “The North Market”, “Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream”, “Eden Burger” , “Harvest Pizzeria”, “Johnson’s Real Ice Cream”.

I was most looking forward to going to the dessert places first and then the local food favorites because I really do love desserts and I enjoy eating them but the food favorites could wait. I wanted to go to “Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream” for awhile but never really had a chance to actually go until this weekend. I really enjoyed my ice cream cone and I love how they have kind of a special wafer cone that taste so good. I also went to the “The North Market” while I was out to get some food from there. I totally forgot what place it was called that I went to inside the North Market to get food but their chicken and waffles was amazing.

I hoped to overall, achieve a greater understanding of my surroundings since I am not from Columbus Ohio, but I am from Akron Ohio. I wanted to know the better food and dessert places around campus because I’ve been eating the same food for days and I wanted to finally try something new for once since I don’t really know any food places around Columbus. This was so much fun and I can’t wait to go to the other places on my list to see what I can eat and enjoy.

Journal #2

I met with my Architecture Scholars Mentor named Doug Gatti. We met in my dorm lobby at 1:00pm on 9/26/19. We met for roughly around 30 minutes. We had a great interaction with each other and we were just casually talking about “How college is going”, “How’s life?” I didn’t really know much about my mentor until we talked on last Thursday. Doug seems like a pretty chill, focused engineer. I learned about different Fraternities on campus and a lot of different activities that you can do on the college campus that I didn’t know about. I am very comfortable reaching out to Doug in the future, because I know we can just have a casual talk and laugh.

Journal #1 (2) – Freshman Experience

My Experience of a Freshman so Far:

What I thought of welcome week was super fun. I really enjoyed the Ohio State community welcoming other students into the buckeye family such as myself. I am so proud to be a buckeye and I can not wait to strive to be the best person and man that I can be. When I first came to my advising appointment I thought college would have a similar high school pattern with the classes. No, I was totally wrong and college is totally different from high school when it comes to classes. I am currently adjusting to my new life on campus, I couldn’t wait to leave my house and branch out to network and meet a whole new community to me and to help me strive here at The Ohio State University. I am adjusting every single day to my new schedule and routine for college. I have to prioritize different things in my day to make sure I get done with what I have to do for the day or even a week in advance. I expected it to be amazing and it actually was, I had high hopes for this college since it has over 60,000 students and faculty. I love calling this place its own city because it really is its own city. This scholars program fits into my expectations because it shows me that being in a scholars program doesn’t mean to slack off or just do anything you have to be involved with the community and organizations around campus to show off your brand and become the best you can be.
