  • Teens had a 44% increased driver’s risk of being killed in a crash with a peer passenger in the car.
  • Of 16 and 17 year old drivers, the risk of being killed in an accident increases by 45% with one passenger and 71% for 2 or more passengers compared to drivers with no passengers.
  • In 2012, 54 percent of the deaths of teenage passengers in passenger vehicles occurred in vehicles driven by another teenager.
  • Among deaths of passengers of all ages, 14 percent occurred when a teenager was driving.
