5 – Prototypes

Prototype 1:

This is an electronic deodorant dispenser.  The spray deodorant is loaded into the device through the top.

Because it is electronic, the prongs for charging are on the bottom and the device can be plugged in directly to the wall.

Once charged and loaded, it can be stuck to any surface and once you press the button on the front (top in this example), you simply place your armpit by the device and it will apply the deodorant evenly.

Prototype 2:

Brent Phillips

The prototype shown below is meant to help the user reach the armpit better to apply deodorant. The deodorant inside of the device is replaceable so the user will not need to replace the entire device when they run out.

  1. The picture on the left is a lever that can be pushed up and down to raise or lower the deodorant. It was an easier one-armed alternative to the twist feature that most common stick deodorants have.
  2. The picture on the right shows the lid or cap. It pivots to the side, which is also an easy task to perform one-armed.

A flexible foam material was used for the prototype as it is designed to bend during application to ensure the deodorant will be applied throughout the entire target area, without as much hassle.

Prototype 3:

Nick Brickles

This is an electronic base that mounts to a counter and secures deodorant stick in place. This will help users with one arm to easily adjust the amount of deodorant and remove the cap. Making the process of applying deodorant much easier.

  • Deodorant stick is placed into the device upside down

  • Two electronic arms will sense the deodorant and tighten onto the cap
    • By securing the cap, it allows the deodorant to stand straight up and down

  • When deodorant is secured in the device that is mounted to a counter/table, users can:
    • Rotate the “bottom” of the stick to raise/lower the amount of deodorant
    • Remove the cap by simply pulling the stick out from the device
      • Leaving the cap in the device

Prorotype 4:

Pictured below is a wand/stick that is used to make the process of putting on deodorant for a person with one had significantly easier. The perks of this wand is that it gives easy accessibility to the full range of the under arm region as well as eliminates the process of opening and closing of the cap that you find in most deodorant sticks.

For the bottom of the wand, there is a button that accesses and hides the actual deodorant that is found on the top of the stick. In addition, there is a handle that has a comfortable grip and allows easy access to this button.

On the top of the wand, you can find the roll on deodorant. The deodorant is shown when the button is pressed, and is hidden on the inside of the device when it is not. In addition, the material of the top part of the wand is more flexible then the base and the middle, allowing the customer to reach full range of the under arm region.

In this picture, you can see the middle of the wand, as well as the process of applying it to oneself. In the middle area of the wand, the liquid for the deodorant is stored, allowing for this want to have a very long shelf life.  This whole process of applying the deodorant should take around 3-5 seconds.
