Year in Review

As my second year as a student at Ohio State comes to an end, I am nostalgic to reflect on all of the experiences that have shaped me to be the person I am today. I have developed into a new person, both personally and professionally through many different experiences.

Professionally and academically, this year has pointed me towards the career I want to pursue. I declared my specialization as marketing, and am beginning to take classes that will build me up in that field. I also have continued to take classes that spark my passions and count towards my minors in Religious Studies and Nonprofit Studies. One influential relationship I developed this year was with Professor Mary Tschirhart, who taught a Nonprofit Governance class. We met regularly to discuss my career path and she encouraged me to pursue my passions and strengths. With her support and guidance, I was led to my specialization declaration and increased confidence in my major and minors.

Personally, my involvement outside the classroom has been transformational for my friendships, leadership and public speaking skills. As of March 2018, I have been a leader with Young Life, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to introduce adolescents to Christ and help them to walk in their faith. As a leader, I work with Dublin Grizzell Middle School, building relationships with middle schoolers, parents and school administrators. My team plans and hosts weekly events. This involvement has given my new best friends, has pushed me out of my introverted comfort-zone and taught me how to interact with professional adults. I am so grateful that I get to serve on a team that is transparent, supportive and encouraging. I have learned so much from the three other students I run alongside with and the over sixty other middle school leaders in Columbus. I plan to be involved with Young Life long after graduation.

To conclude, my time thus far at Ohio State has been in some ways, challenging, and in some invigorating, but have consistently grown and shaped me in to who I am, and still, into who I want to be. Looking into the future, in the Summer of 2019 I will be studying abroad with to Bologna, Italy to take a class on Italian culture, art and history for four weeks, and then, interning with an events planning company in Cincinnati.

Artifacts

In the fall 2017 semester I took the class English 2280, The English Bible, taught by Professor James Fredal. This class quickly peaked my interest in the Bible and the Christian faith specifically. My faith has always been a large part of my life, so to be able to take a class incorporating some of my beliefs was such a neat experience. Our final project was to write a paper that discussed a theme or idea in the Bible. Although quite broad, I really enjoyed writing this paper and I believe that this piece of writing not only showcases my analytical skills, but present how much I value my faith. This class and the act of writing this paper has inspired me to pursue a minor in Religious Studies with a focus in Christianity.

About Me

My name is Rosie Peraino and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University. I attended William Mason High School and graduated in 2017. I am currently pursuing a major in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resources and minors in Nonprofit Organization and Religious Studies. I believe that I am an organized, goal-oriented person with a passion for service.

In high school I was very involved with my school’s National Honor Society chapter and I served as a chair for the Prom Fashion Show event, raising a record amount for students who are financially unable to attend Prom. I also was involved with the school business, The Comet Zone and worked as a Special Orders Professional. These positions taught me how to create professional relationships with others, manage my time and about the business world in general.

I plan to graduate in 2021 and have a meaningful career in business.
