Rationale for Studying Patent Foramen Ovale:

All of the students in our group are studying to one day provide direct care for either adult or neonate patients.  Patent foramen ovale is sometimes noticed during the neonatal period.  However, it may not present until later in adulthood–if at all.   We each expect to see cases of patent foramen ovale in our future practices.
