About Smart City Grant

What it is:

The Smart City Grant is a program started by the U.S. department of Transportation to award one city a grant of $40 million (and another $10 million from Vulcan Incorporated) to drastically improve their current transportation system(s) to become the “first” smart city. Columbus was the city to be awarded this grant and has now raised over $400 million in public and private funding to further the project. The main goal is to provide crucial transportation to an area of Columbus, Linden, which has been struggling financially. They have also experienced hardships in low job availability, poor transportation systems to the area, availability of grocery stores, and other essential services.
