1. How are students elected into AOA?
All junior and senior students who are eligible academically (top 25% of their class) are considered for election. We request CV’s from eligible juniors in the spring and eligible seniors in the fall. Using their academic record and the submitted CV information, current AOA student and faculty members vote on the students to be elected. Scholastic achievement is the primary but not the sole basis for nomination. Other considerations include a candidate’s track record of leadership, ethical standards, professionalism, service, and potential for achievement in medicine.
2. Is there any difference between the criteria for election of third- versus fourth-year students?
There is more data available from clinical clerkships for fourth-year students.
3. Who elects new members?
Current members of the OSU Gamma Chapter as well as AOA faculty members elect new inductees.
4. Will my election to AOA be included in my Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)?
Yes, the election date is set so that new members can have this honor included in their MSPE.
5. How many members can be elected?
Up to one-sixth of the projected graduating class size can be elected. The exact number of members accepted in each election is variable.
