Wrap-up Meeting – Spring Semester 2014

A special thanks to all the instructors, conversation leaders, technology specialists, materials development personnel, native informants, and administrators for their contributions this year to our individualized instruction program in the Ohio State Department of Spanish & Portuguese.

At today’s program wrap-up meeting (festa/fiesta!), we discussed the following over good food and refreshing drinks.

  • Each member of our team shared…
    • the most difficult situation s/he had to deal with this semester and how s/he handled it
    • the most rewarding moment
    • ideas for possible professional development materials to be made accessible on this website

Although many people may not be on campus this summer, I invite you to explore the resources on this website. Feel free to contact me if you want to learn more about something. We can chat via e-mail or via webcam if you can’t stop by my office this summer.

Explore Away!

Trends

In our language program, we have many multimedia resources available to enhance the learning environment and facilitate teaching, in the form of presentations (for example, PDFs, PowerPoints, Videos). As we move from static to more interactive media, customized tools that are on our radar are…

Cross-platform, interactive…

  • videos
  • e-books
  • websites

that provide learners the opportunity to asynchronously interact with authentic materials and native speakers of the target language.

These types of learning tools may keep students more engaged and encourage active language learning when they are not connecting synchronously with a live instructor, tutor, conversation partner or peer.
