About Me

Picture of Katherine Morey standing in front of a sunflower fieldHello! My name is Katherine Morey.  I am a first year student in the College of Arts and Sciences in the STEM EE Scholars program.  I am currently majoring in Biology, but that is subject to change!  I might like to change my major to biochemistry or neuroscience, as psychology and the way people work interest me.  I might minor in psychology or computer science in order to broaden my knowledge and satisfy my curiosity in a number of subjects.  I am also interested in taking part in many extra-curriculars here at OSU, including but not limited to rec sports and STEM.

Personal Life

I am from Cincinnati, Ohio and I went to Ursuline Academy for high school.  I’m outgoing, positive, and always ready to start a conversation with anyone.  I think my positive attitude towards activities, projects and others is a great skill that I have and one that will help me as I go through life.  I like to apply my skills at my job at a summer camp.  I am a counselor over the summer where I lead campers for 1 week a a time through activities, meals, and so much more.  Working there is extremely rewarding as I get to watch the campers make friends, have fun, and make lifelong memories.  Through this job, my skills in teamwork and communication allow me to be the best I can be for my colleagues and the families we work for.

Future

I aspire to achieve a future in science, technology, or medicine.  I don’t know exactly what this is, maybe by being a doctor, researcher, or some other occupation, but I am looking forward to seeing what path life at OSU leads me on.  I would like my future to be one where I help people and to help make the world a better place.  I want to help make all spaces inviting, inclusive, and accessible for everyone so that everyone has the chance to reach their highest potential.

Year in Review

G.O.A.L.S.

My Goals for Academics and Beyond

In order to hold myself accountable and to strive to better myself, and my community, I am committing to a set of goals that I hope to achieve this semester, this academic year, and for the entirety of my undergraduate study here at OSU.

My First Semester G.O.A.L.S.

To finish out my first semester at OSU, I would like to be able to foster better habits.   I often lose track of all I have to do in one day, or during the week.  I want to create a schedule so that I can specify study times, a sleep schedule, class times and some time just for myself.  I hope that by doing this, I can create more structure in my daily life, amidst all the confusion and disorganization that has been this past year with COVID.

I also hope to get back into coding.  During my senior year of high school, a good friend of mine took a coding class and encouraged me to do so as well.  I absolutely loved the course and hoped to continue to learn more coding skills this semester, but I became busy and didn’t often have much time to indulge in fun, creative projects for myself.  I am planning on doing an online course to better help myself get back into coding and making things that I enjoy.

My First Year G.O.A.L.S.

This year, I would like to get more involved in my community and commit to organizations that can help benefit others.  I was approved to house a 4 PAWS dog, and I hope that by doing this next semester, it will help to benefit the life of a child with disabilities by volunteering my time to help train the dogs.  In addition to this, I would like to commit myself to an organization on campus.  My first semester was very hectic, and I felt like I didn’t have enough time to take part in the events and meetings that I wanted to.  By the end of this year, I also hope to declare a minor in Computer and Information Sciences (CIS).  As I previously stated, I took a Computer Science course in high school and absolutely loved it.  I hope to foster this passion by taking classes for the CIS minor that are informative, engaging, and creative.

My Undergraduate G.O.A.L.S.

I don’t know exactly where my path will take me at the moment, but I would like to achieve and participate in a multitude of things to better enhance myself.  I would definitely like to study abroad, at some point in order to travel, see the world, and to expand my knowledge on the culture and lives of other people with different backgrounds and experiences than me.  Since I am on the Pre-Med track at OSU, I would love to get some experience in internships, research, and shadowing doctors in order to identify what areas I might be interested in.  I also hope to challenge myself academically by taking more difficult classes and classes that force me to think differently than I normally do.

I believe that by reinforcing these goals in my daily life, I will be able to further my own knowledge and skills, while accomplishing these goals to the best of my abilities.
