BUS TOUR #3 – CAESAR CREEK VINEYARDS TOUR AND WINE TASTING
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2023 / AFTERNOON – 12:15 – 4:00 – “Half Day Bus Tour”
This tour will travel to eastern Greene County for a box lunch provided at the Caesar Creek Vineyard, along with a presentation and tour of the history, development, and operation of the winery. This tour would not be complete without a wine tasting!
Caesar Creek Vineyard is a family owned business located in New Jasper Township in eastern Greene County on an operating 200+ acre farm. The winery prides itself in making “estate wines” which are made on site from grapes growing in its rolling vineyard, fermented, bottled, labeled and aged in its winery and sold in the tasting room. This is unusual for an Ohio winery, but it is the winery’s objective to be true to the finest winery traditions where the winemaker knows and loves the land and vines, and makes the best possible wines from them. BUS TOUR #2 – CLIFTON MILL/CLIFTON GORGE HIKE
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2023 – Morning – “Half Day Bus Tour”
This 4.25 hour tour will include lunch at Clifton Mill, a .5 mile hike to the Clifton Gorge Nature Center for a presentation on the history of the gorge, and a 1.3 mile hike of the Rim Trail.
Enjoy a visit and lunch at the Historic Clifton Mill. See how the Mill works and view the grounds. Clifton Mill is one of the largest water-powered grist mills still in existence. The mill was built in this location to take advantage of the natural power of the concentrated water funneled into the gorge. Clifton Mill celebrates the Christmas Season with an extraordinary light display of 3.5 million lights illuminating the mill the gorge, the riverbanks, trees and bridges.
Learn about and hike two short trails of the Clifton Gorge. This 268-acre preserve protects one of the most spectacular dolomite and limestone gorges in the state. Registered as a National Natural Landmark in 1968, Clifton Gorge encompasses a 2-mile stretch of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River, just east of John Bryan State Park. Geologically, it is an outstanding example of interglacial and post-glacial canyon cutting. At one point, the river funnels through a deep, narrow channel which was apparently formed by the enlarging and connecting of a series of potholes in the resistant Silurian dolomite bedrock. In other sections of the gorge, cliff overhangs have broken off forming massive slump blocks scattered along the valley floor. The shaded, north-facing slopes provide a cool, moist environment for northern species, and providing one of the most spectacular sites in the state.
