Experts Teach on Sideline Sports Injuries.  This webcast will discuss Sideline Sports Injuries.  This presentation covers several common musculoskeletal injuries experienced by athletes. Learners will gain an understanding of the most common shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries and conditions encountered by team physicians on the sidelines during sporting events. They also learn the acute and long-term treatment strategies for these injuries. The presentation will also cover some common sports-related finger injuries.

While higher level sports often have sports medicine coverage on the sidelines, many recreational sporting events do not. You could be the only medical professional on hand at your child’s sporting event when an injury occurs.

So to prepare us for how to respond to one of these events, we’ve invited two of Ohio State University’s Sports Medicine experts. They will discuss some of the most common injuries we might see and how to deal with them. First, we’re pleased to introduce Professor of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Dr. Timothy Miller. Dr. Miller was himself a Division I collegiate athlete before pursuing orthopedics so he has first hand knowledge of sideline injuries. Our second guest is Dr. Bryant Walrod who is a Professor of Family Medicine & Sports Medicine. Dr. Walrod was also a college athlete and marathoner with clinical interests in endurance medicine.

As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to:

  • Understand the most effective on-field and post-game treatments for common sports-related shoulder, knee, and ankle injuries.
  • Understand the most common causes of acute anterior cruciate ligament tears from a sports related knee injury.
  • Understand techniques to reduce shoulder dislocations
  • Understand techniques to reduce finger dislocations
  • Understand the treatment options for acromioclavicular separations

You’ll also learn about the following:

  • Injury Prone Sports
  • Injuries in Kids
  • ACL risk
  • Ethical Considerations
  • Prevention
