Part of being a responsible scientist is promoting science education and community involvement. You can inspire future scientists and support our local community by participating in MCDB’s outreach activities! We have partnered with the Ohio State Biochemistry Program (OSBP) to provide fun and engaging science education opportunities and support to the students at Hilltonia Middle school. In the past we have visited sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes to teach students about essential scientific concepts like the chemical and physical properties of matter and lead them in hands-on activities like extracting DNA from strawberries. Since in person events have not been feasible recently due to Covid-19, we have instead held collections of canned goods and school supplies to help support the students of Hilltonia and their families during these difficult times. We hope to resume in-person events once conditions improve and will post these opportunities when they arise.
We have an upcoming food and supplies drive to support the students of Hilltonia Middle School and their families, more information including specific dates, items needed, and drop-off locations will be posted soon! (March 2022) For more information, please contact Natalie Aloi at aloi.6@osu.edu
