How do you plan when starting a new study unit or topic with your class?

When starting a new study unit, I often will do a similar activity from the previous unit, but will change the content to reflect the new topic. For example, when starting the Crystals unit in MatSci, we will do a “foldable” (similar to the ones Dinah Zike popularized) graphic organizer to study the 4 basic crystal unit cells. Every unit we do a foldable (and a video, and 2 worksheets, and 5 note-taking days, and so on), and I feel this regularity helps the students get into a routine that is predictable and reassuring.
