“You learn to play the game with others. That’s what learning a language is.” — Jhumpa Lahiri |

Spanish will open up more majors if you are undecided. It satisfies the language requirement for all 80 majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and the International Business major. Even OSU colleges not requiring a foreign language still advise students to take one!If you studied Spanish in the past, should you continue? Yes! Don’t waste your investment of time and effort; whatever you have learned is a foundation for further study (CLLC).Spanish at OSU Lima is unlike any high school Spanish class. It is a new experience! |

What are Spanish language courses like? |
· The students form a learning community, work in groups and help one another collaborative class! |
· Lots of talking (not by the instructor). |
· Time passes fast: students report not looking at the clock once! |
· Communicative approach: students talk about their lives, experiences, opinions, likes and dislikes, habits, etc. |
· Relaxed environment to foster learning. We play board games, cards, connect four, battleship, Clue, escape rooms, jigsaw tasks and beat-the-clock games. |
· Compare Hispanic and Latinx cultures to students’ everyday experiences. |
How will you benefit? |
· Students learn about different cultural values and lifestyles and build inter-cultural competence. Many students underestimate how important this competence has become to employers. |
· Students learn analytical skills translatable to any subject matter. |
· Students learn that an idea can be expressed in various ways in a foreign language, which helps them to be able to see that any problem they encounter outside of classroom can be examined from multiple perspectives. |
