G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: To cultivate my understanding of diversity and global awareness, I will be taking General Education classes emphasizing Global Studies and Social Diversity. The classes I am taking or plan on taking include Introductory Psychology, Classical Civilizations: Rome, Classical Mythology, and Introduction to Archaeology. Some things I learned about in high school, like psychology and some mythology, but things like archaeology are completely foreign to me. I look forward to further pursuing my pre-existing interests and also challenging myself with entirely new topics. I also would love to volunteer abroad through programs like Buck-I-SERV. I have great desires both to help others and to travel so I think this would be a great way for me to be exposed to other cultures.

Original Inquiry: Although I am not sure if I want to do my own research project at Ohio State, I would love to do job shadowing or internships at hospitals and research labs over the summer or potentially during the school year if my work load and schedule allow for it. I did an internship at a research lab last summer that I found to be very interesting. I would love to find something similar to that again for the upcoming summer that will be a hands on experience for me.

Academic Enrichment: As a biology major, I have some pretty tough coursework ahead of me. In my first semester I have already taken Biology 1114H and Chemistry 1210 at the same time. Both are classes that students sometimes struggle with, especially since they both have a lab component with them. I look forward to taking classes in subjects like Anatomy, Organic Chemistry, and Physics, along with my General Education classes which I will be taking the honors sections of.

Leadership Development: In the past, I have been a leader of sports teams and academic societies and coached younger soccer players on my own. I love taking on a leadership role and being involved with others. I plan to get an internship over the summer and possibly return to coaching as well. In a couple of years once I move to off campus housing and can have a car on campus, I would love to get an off campus job, most likely in sales to improve my customer interactions. Should I do well enough in my classes this first year, I think a great option for me in my second year would be to become a tutor. I love being able to help others and refreshing myself on information I have learned in the past would be a great way for me to keep track of all the information.

Service Engagement: As previously mentioned, I would love to serve others through programs like Buck-I-SERV. I also attend the Newman Center on a regularly frequent basis and would love to know of any missions trips they have over breaks or weekends that I could get involved in. I have attended a couple meeting for the on-campus organization T.O.S.S.S. (The Ohio Student Service Society) and heard about their service opportunities, but I unfortunately cannot usually make it to meetings because of my schedule so I am not able to volunteer. I hope to become more involved next semester if my schedule allows. Lastly, I am also participating in BuckeyeThon this year and hope to for my future years at Ohio State as well.
