As the new 2019-20 Research Coordinator on the STEM EE Scholars Leadership Council, I have had the opportunity to present my ideas and contribute to the annual Honors and Scholars Leadership Summit at Ohio State with a plethora of my peers on campus from other honors and scholars communities.

From the Dunn Wellness scholars, I was able to learn how to implement the various wellnesses in not just my life but my scholars’ community and how to make these effective. I was able to participate in a group discussion with other undergraduates on our mental health and how to make that a priority despite the multitude of responsibilities we have in our lives. This lost sense of health and self can be detrimental and we discussed ideas that could make this a higher priority, such as taking breaks during study sessions, relaxing with friends when stressed, and more.

Also, I was able to attend a scholarships and internships session where undergraduates can prepare to showcase themselves to prestigious awards and fellowships, such as Fulbright. It is never too late or early to start applying and seeking various scholarships throughout a person’s college career.

There were more sessions that were also taking place at the same time that other members of the leadership council attended too. In the end, the members gathered together and we discussed various methods on how we plan to implement this for our current scholars and future ones as well in the autumn semester. Not only that, but we have ideas to collaborate with other scholars’ groups and discuss how we can mix the two varying groups together to create something beneficial for both parties. So, from different cooling off sessions to academic programs and more outreach ideas, our leadership is confident that we can make this scholar experience a memorable one.
