Poltical Behavior in Brazil (Democracy under Seige)

Attached please find an article in which I came across, that clearly paints a picture of what many Brazilians feel is a not so “democratic” government. As Figure 11.3 on page 304 in Democracy in Latin America, you may immediately notice that between both the lower and upper class of Brazil, both a very much so dissatisfied with their current state of democracy. As stated in this article some believe that Brazil’s government elites simply lack the interest of perusing a pure democracy but instead, seek to better their own lives. This article clearly pictures their democracy as being fueled by greed and corruption and they feel that until they can Stop correcting “successfully” tackle these two issues, their democracy will remain destructive to Brazil as a whole, leaving both the middle and lower classes behind. This article states that not only are Brazilian elections under attack, but even their simple freedom of speech. Media is mentioned to be bought and controlled by the elites, all the while Brazilians are fed lies as to what happens behind their government’s curtains. We can sense a need for transparency, lack of corruption, and the betterment for a stronger middle class.
