G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

Being in such a diverse society and university, it is important to have a good sense of global awareness. At OSU, I am currently taking Spanish 1 as my language GE. Through this class, I feel as though my global awareness has already increased since I have learned more about the Spanish language and more about the Spanish culture. To increase my global awareness more, I also plan on taking Microbiology 3704 which is all about past and present of the HIV epidemic. I also plan on taking psychology 1100H and sociology 1101H. Both of these classes will help me understand others better. Overall, my language and my other GE’s will allow me to continue to gain more global awareness.

Original Inquiry:

At OSU there are so many ways to get involved with research and original inquiry. While I have not had the experience of doing research yet, in high school I did. In high school, I did many research projects in my science classes as well as research papers. At OSU, I plan to get involved in research. i am really interested in medicine and the human body so finding research at the hospital or a lab that involves medicine and the human body would be very interesting to me. Through research, I hope to keep learning and finding new things that interest me.

Academic Enrichment:

All throughout my schooling I have taken the tougher classes to challenge and push myself to be the best that I can be. Here at OSU, I am part of the honors program and will be taking the classes that will challenge me as well as strengthen my knowledge as much as possible. When I first came to OSU, I planned to major in biochemistry. However, I very quickly realized that this was not the major for me. I instead switched to pharmaceutical sciences because that coursework and major interested me greatly. In this major, I chose GE’s that will challenge me but also are in areas that interest me. Throughout my college career and medical school career, I will keep taking the courses that challenge me and allow me to expand my knowledge as much as possible.

Leadership Development:

Being a leader can mean a variety of things. One can take it as being on an executive board for a club, being part of your dorm government, union, etc. or it can mean helping someone who needs help with a class. While I am not in student union or on the executive board of a club, I have shown my leadership by helping my friends with concepts that they don’t understand in class. My roommate and my other friend in my dorm come to me every night in order to get help with the chemistry concepts. i also help others in my calculus recitation class when they have questions.

Service Engagement:

Service engagement was a very important part of my high school career and I plan to keep it as a vital part throughout my college career. In high school, I volunteered at a variety of events. I volunteered at concessions, for Make-A-Wish, for Kids Against Hunger, One billion rising and a variety of other events put on at my school. In college, I plan to be very involved as well. I plan to volunteer at the Wexner Medical Center. Also I am very interested in being a trainer for guide dogs because I get to train dogs to help others and I get to spend the day with a dog!
