DG-SWEM is a discontinuous Galerkin finite element code that solves the two-dimensional (depth-integrated) shallow water equations. The code was designed within the ADCIRC (ADvanced CIRCulation) modeling framework (in the sense that it includes the same physical parameterizations and maintains the same I/O), which is a continuous Galerkin finite element shallow water model that is extensively used in the US and worldwide. DG-SWEM has been used in a wide range of applications, including the investigation of, for example, storm surge [1], [2], the mixing of fresh and saline waters in coastal Florida [3], the impact of sea-level rise in estuarine rivers [4], tidal resonance in the Bristol Channel [5] , and the performance and impact of tidal turbines [6], [7].
