Scholars To Do List Part 2

The last three coffee shops I went to for this to-do list are Kafe Kerouac, Cafe Brioso, and Fox in the Snow Cafe. The first of these three coffee shops I went to is Kafe Kerouac. I went here with my friend Olivia on a cold and rainy night a few weeks ago. We walked there because we found that it was only about half a mile from our dorm! The walk was cold but definitely worth it because I ended up really liking this little cafe! It is a really tiny and somewhat run down coffee shop with limited seating. While this does not sound very appealing, I really liked it! The limited seating created a social environment because you are forced to sit at the same table as people you might not know. I also really liked that there seemed to be a lot of regular customers there who knew the staff personally. The cafe was also connected to a restaurant next door that had live music playing! Me and Olivia had originally planned to study for some upcoming midterms at Kafe Kerouac, and while we both really enjoyed the environment, it was not very study-friendly. We ended up just getting smoothies and hanging out there for a bit before we left to study elsewhere. Cafe Kerouac was probably my favorite coffee shop from this to-do list. It helps that it is within walking distance of my dorm. I do think that I’ll go back to maybe do some homework that does not require a lot of focus.

Kafe Kerouac

The next two coffee shops I went to I did not like as much as Cafe Kerouac. I went to Cafe Brioso on a Monday morning after my Explore Columbus class. The line was really long and took about twenty minutes to get through – probably because it was a Monday around lunchtime. They did have a lot of food options that looked good but I just got a coffee because I was in a hurry. They also had a large variety of important coffee beans that was really cool. They had coffee beans from Guatemala, Costa Rica, and about 10 other places. I probably won’t go back to Cafe Brioso because its kind of far away from my dorm and it was kind of expensive. I also went to Fox in the Snow Cafe on my way back from my explore Columbus class. I liked the openness of this cafe and the coffee I got was good. However, it is also somewhat far away and expensive so I’m not sure I will go back.

I really enjoyed completed the Columbus to-do list! I have always liked trying new restaurants and coffee shops so it was really fun for me. It also helped me to understand the layout of Columbus as I had to navigate it by myself at times. I also learned the bus system a little bit better. The list also helped me find a lot of stores in the short north that I would like to visit again! To someone completing the same to-do list as me, I would definitely suggest Kafe Kerouac as it is close to campus and it was really cute!

Scholars To Do List

For my scholars to-do list I chose to do the coffee experiences. I am from Toledo and there is not very much to do there. One of the few things we have are cute coffee shops downtown! I was really excited to move to Columbus because it is a bigger city and has a lot of cute places to go to including a lot of coffee shops! I was very excited to do the coffee experiences for this project because I hadn’t gotten to go to any yet. I was mostly hoping to find a new place to go drink coffee and study at and also get to know the short north a little bit better!

On Saturday, me and THE Olivia Mullen ? went to the short north to go to a couple of coffee shops for the project. The first coffee shop we went to was One Line Coffee. We both got a black coffee and talked to the barista for about twenty minutes about how they make their coffee. We were both very impressed by how much of a process there was for making a single cup of coffee! While this coffee shop was cool I do not think that I’ll go back anytime soon because it was 4$ for a plain cup of coffee and it wasn’t that great.

The second coffee shop we went to was called Mission Coffee. I really liked this coffee shop! I got a vanilla latte and it was really good. The shop itself was also super cute. It was really dark inside but one of the walls was just one large window which lit the room in an interesting way. We were also one of the only customers there so we just talked to the baristas for a while and had a fun conversation. I will definitely go back to Mission!

I really liked doing the first part of this project! On top of going to these two coffee shops, me and Liv also went to a couple of really cool thrift stores and looked around for a little bit. We also walked through the downtown Columbus Halloween bash which was really cool!
