I identify as a typical Ohio State student. I come from Dover Ohio, a city about thirty minutes from Canton Ohio. My experiences prior to coming to Ohio State certainly shaped me into the person I am today. One of the major influences on me as a person is my family. I grew up surrounded by a close family who supported me and helped me become who I am. Both of my parents are in the medical field and this really impacted my career aspirations. While they encouraged me to pursue any career option that appealed to me; I found out that a career in the medical field would most likely be the best for me. I came to this conclusion by shadowing doctors and volunteering at my local hospital. My decision to pursue a medical career is one of the reasons I joined the Biological Sciences Scholars Program. I wanted to be in an environment that was focused and had similar goals as me. My major is Biochemistry and the great majority of students in this scholars program also have science majors. The most apparent qualities and or traits I see being exemplified on campus are academic greatness and diversity. The students and faculty are much more academically focused than I expected. The diversity of this campus is also much greater than expected. I believe that both of these are important aspects, and they really seem to be exemplified on campus.
