3 Takeaways from ESLTech

SMART goals help you to achieve success.

There are five components of a SMART goal.  They are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable,  Relevant, and Time-Bound. Using SMART goals is very effective in personal motivation and is an effective tool to staying motivated and engaged in your personal or academic life. This semester I used SMART goals in my STEP project to lay out how much money I wanted to save for my study abroad trip next semester.

Active Note-Taking Strategies

Using active note-taking strategies like abbreviations in the forms of acronyms and symbols helps to save time when taking notes. In fast-pace classes, such as chemistry and math, the use of acronyms has helped me to write notes that are more effective. Another active-note taking strategy that I used in my chemistry class is using web diagrams and then splitting complex ideas into simpler ones. This concept has helped me make bigger picture concepts in chemistry.

Time Management

Using technology like Trello has helped me to realize the importance of time management. Trello is a great way to manage things that are you working on. It allows you to see the things you are currently doing, what you have done, and what you need to do. It reminds me of sticking sticky notes in a planner and is very convenient for students who can’t seem to use planners to schedule out their weeks. It is very simple to use and I believe that I will use this technology in the future to plan my weeks when the semester starts in August.
