News & Notes

  • COVID-19 Update
    • Temperature and personal health reporting
      • On August 10, the college discontinued having an in-person temperature and health screening at the 352 Fry Hall entrance. All staff, faculty, and students are now required to report their own temperature and symptom screening answers on the OSU app or compass.osu.edu every day prior to entering the building.
        • You can download the OSU App by searching for “Ohio State” on your mobile device’s App store.
        • Log in with your name.# username and password
        • Go to “About You” on the app
        • Go to Health Reporting
        • Click Add Record
        • Enter temperature
        • Respond to the three questions and click submit
        • Once complete, you will receive a green screen clearing you to come to campus up to 18 hours from the time of completing the app. If you receive a screen that is not green, please contact your direct supervisor for additional steps.
      • Patients and research participants still undergo an in-person temperature and health screening at the 338 W. 10th entrance.
    • The CDC has expanded the list of COVID-related symptoms. The complete list now includes fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle/body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you experience these symptoms, do not come to campus and contact Dr. Nixon: 614-537-5367 or nixon.24@osu.edu and Dr. Zadnik: 614-580-7267 or zadnik.4@osu.edu.
    • Additionally, you must also contact Drs. Nixon and Zadnik if you are tested for COVID-19, someone you live with is tested for COVID-19, or if you have a known exposure to anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • 11+Neil Building Update
    • The Eleventh & Neil Transition (ENT) team has been hard at work over the last several months planning the details of our impending move later this autumn. Due to the imprecise nature of construction, inspections, and permits, we are uncertain of an exact move-in date to the new clinic. At this time, we anticipate that the clinic move will take place in the latter half of October. During that time, we know that main clinic operations will be closed for a period of time (likely 1-2 weeks) during the move. For those of you that are moving to the new clinic building, be reminded that the entire month of August has been designated as this year’s CleanOPT. So, please follow the number one rule of moving and purge before you move!
    • The ENT team is also coordinating the remaining moves that will occur on 10th avenue, including vacating all of Starling Loving A Wing, the Fry Bridge, and the moves within Fry Tower. We are planning on a two-week hiatus to occur between the end of the clinic move and the beginning of the 10th Avenue moves. Therefore, we are tentatively planning on mid- to late November for these moves to take place.
    • Floorplans of the new building and a directory of rooms in Fry and Starling Loving that will move to 11+Neil are located in the I:Drive BUIDLING FLOOR PLANS folder. For questions related to the move, reach out to chair of the ENT team, Dr. Nixon nixon.24@osu.edu
  • Special Testing Hours
    • In order to ensure special testing is available throughout the duration of clinic times, we have adjusted the hours that Deanna Hecoax and/or Ashley Hill will be available for special testing throughout the week
      • Mondays:
        • Deanna is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except during lunch hour)
        • Ashley is available from 4 to 5:45 p.m.
      • Tuesdays-Fridays:
        • Deanna is available from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. (except during lunch hour)
  • Billing Updates:
    • CareSource/Superior Vision Update:
      • All patients with CareSource Medicaid now have their vision claims managed by a different company called Versant/Superior Vision.
      • All medical visits 99XXX and CPT procedure codes will continue to be billed to CareSource.
      • However, all vision comprehensive exams 92XXX, low vision services, glasses, and medically necessary CL’s will be billed to Superior Vision.
        • Low Vision and medically necessary CLs require a prior authorization.
        • Vision Therapy will continue to be billed to CareSource without the need of a prior authorization.
    • Molina coverage
      • We are Molina providers for medical care only. Therefore, comprehensive exams and refractions are never covered for any Molina patients in our clinic.
      • Realize that if a refraction is performed and billed during a medical visit, it will be the patient’s responsibility to cover the cost of the refraction ($49). So, if you encounter this situation, please seek understanding and agreement from the patient prior to providing this service.
  • eFaxing Coming to the College of Optometry
