“I-DOC was an invaluable opportunity to explore and truly consider optometry as a career. It was nerve-wracking to visit the Midwest away from my comfort zone in California. However, everyone at The Ohio State College of Optometry provided such a warm welcome. The faculty and students demonstrated the close-knit community within the college and how the school’s support and passion contribute to student success. I was able to understand the application process, their curriculum, different modalities for optometrists, and had the chance to network and learn the experiences of current students and faculty. “I-DOC has been one of the most impactful experiences I have had as a pre-optometry student. This program gives you unique opportunities and there was so much to learn each day. Along with immersing more into optometry and learning about the different modalities from a variety of optometrists, I-DOC creates new friendships and connections. You are able to see “behind the scenes” of OSU’s clinic and you get the opportunity to talk with faculty and current students of The Ohio State University’s College of Optometry! Finally, I-DOC helps inform students more about how the application process works and important aspects of optometry school to consider. Overall, I-DOC was incredible and certainly a priceless experience.”

Nothing is more motivating than not only being hands on in their clinics and classrooms but also meeting the very people in the niche fields in optometry (ex. public health, clinical research, military, etc.) that also represent your background!”

“IDOC was the best decision I made for my 2023 summer and for my future career. I was initially nervous because it was my first time outside of Florida. However, Dr. VDN, Jennifer Bennett, current students, and the staff created a family-oriented atmosphere that instantly made me feel at home. The activities that were planned for the week were nothing short of spectacular. The open conversations with Alumni, the mock seminar and interview, the lunch and practice with current students, the golfing with faculty, and even the stadium tour were all so beneficial and impactful toward me confirming that Optometry is indeed what I want to pursue, and Ohio is my top choice of where I want to pursue it. I even created a new interest in Vision Therapy, after never knowing that it existed. “I-DOC was a life changing program! It allowed for students to explore Ohio State’s Optometry program in depth and make connections with current students and faculty members. I-DOC presented information in fun, helpful, and engaging ways. The program itself only lasts 4 days, but you learn so much about optometric careers within that small time frame. The coordinators are super enthusiastic about the program and it’s easy to tell they truly care about the students. The connections and relationships that participants create among themselves is unmatched! By the time the program is over, you will feel as if you are part of a big family!”
