The StrengthsQuest was created to give us insight to what our strengths are. These strengths should be focused on improvement, to help you become the best you can be. This does not mean to neglect your other strengths, but rather to focus primarily on your top five. My top five strengths are achiever, competition, restorative, communication, and responsibility.
One way that I have demonstrated my top strength of achiever is my vastly improved work ethic. In high school, I was one of those kids who did not have to study for a single test and still received high grades. However, after coming to college and receiving a 73 on my first calculus exam, I knew that although I was studying what I felt to be a lot, it wasn’t enough. So, for my second calculus exam, I studied for several days, went to office hours, and solved more practice problems until I understood every concept. My result was a 97 on the second exam. I pride myself on working hard until I get what I want, which is normally good grades and to make my parents proud.
Competition is another no-brainer with me. Having competed in dance competitions since elementary school, I know all too well what its like to be placed under high pressure situations. It gives me motivation and forces me to work my hardest until I am not only better than my previous self, but better than everyone else. Having strength in competition, I have won every dance national I have attended. It feels good to know that your hard work has paid off.
With regards to responsibility, I am committed to honesty and loyalty. One of the things I hate most is when people lie to me. Hence, when I am put into a situation where I need to lie, no matter how small of a lie it is, I am very uneasy about it. If you ask my parents, you’d know that I am quite possibly the worst liar out there. When I attempt to lie either my entire face blushes or I start laughing. Either way, I am horrible at it, making it seem logical that one of my top strengths is responsibility. Reflecting upon these strengths, I was able to learn more about myself and what I am good at.
