My name is Jack Haney and I am a second-year from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. While I am strongly considering going into law, my goal is to find a career in which I am engaging with others as much as possible as well as having a positive impact on anyone I can. To that end, I am also considering obtaining an advanced degree and teaching at a University. However, the ideal situation would be to practice law and teach. I hope to live a life of service to others and my community, I understand the tremendous opportunity I have to be alive in such a monumental time. Further, I understand the responsibility one has to make an impact on those around them. I am a strong believer in the tremendous impact a simple act of kindness can have on others and I hope to act on this belief. I am further a strong believer in the impact one can have over time through their work and hope to strike a balance between both immediate and long-term impact through my life.
Beyond the classroom, I am a member of the Undergraduate Student Government within which I am currently a Recruitment Coordinator in Community Relations, sit on the University Senate, the University Wellness Collaborative and am an alternate on the University Conduct Board. In addition to USG, I am a member of STEM EE Scholars, the D1 Club Baseball team, and I am working on achieving full membership within CCWA as well as freelancing for the Lantern. As of August 2020, I have begun a position on the board of directors of a local non-profit, the WORTH Foundation, as well as a Fellowship with the Ohio Democratic Party and Biden/Harris campaign.
In high school, I was involved in baseball, the senior leadership council, theater, Model UN, the school paper, and Youth in Government as well as being a co-president of my school’s Diversity and Inclusion club and co-founding the Peer Intervention Group. I worked hard to be a leader in, as well as a positive representative of, my community and I would love to, and intend to, continue doing so while at OSU. I love to engage with others, be active, and explore new areas of interest and I hope to continue to do so at OSU.
