G.O.A.L.S.

By identifying each of my G.O.A.LS, I am able to outline specific objectives that I would like to accomplish during my time at The Ohio State University.

G stands for Global Awareness. This category is most representative of my passions and objectives as an undergraduate student. Coming from a French household, I have learned to appreciate multiculturalism and multilingualism. In the past, I have taken French classes to expand my knowledge about my own heritage. However in college, I am primarily focused on psychology. We observe differences in culture between collectivistic and individualistic societies, such as North America and Japan respectively. Furthermore, I have noticed ways I act and been able to interpret why I act a certain way. Outside of the classroom, I am specifically interested in the Study Abroad program. My family has fortunately been able to show me places around the world including France, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Israel and Jordan. Through the years, I have developed a strong appreciation for foreign countries and I would live to further my education by studying in a different environment.

O stands for Original Inquiry. Although I have not made any specific decisions, I have been considering doing research in the psychology field. Whether it be conducting my own experiment or observing the behavior of children across different backgrounds and cultures, I am very open to this idea. Over the next year, I plan to learn about opportunities and research ideas through various resources and with the help of my advisors.

A is for Academic Enrichment. I am a psychology major; after an exceptional AP Psychology course my junior year, I fell in love with the curriculum, the studies, and everything in between. However, I have always wanted to work with younger children. I have thought about working in the education system, but I also have always considered social work as well. This semester I am taking two psychology oriented courses, as well as many general education courses which have increasingly helped me consider many different possible options as an undergraduate student. My goal for these next four years is to find a career path, one that ties in my love for psychology and my love for children. Next semester, I will be taking an introductory social work class to allow me to get a feel for another field other than psychology. Additionally, my honors advisor and I have also discussed looking into the College of Public Affairs if I am interested in government affairs in relation to child care and psychology. Beyond the classroom, I have learned about the F.E.E.P program in which I would be allowed to shadow anyone in a school setting whether that be a teacher, school psychologist, or counselor. I would be able to apply my major and passions to the real-world. By using all of these opportunities in and out of the classroom, I will be able to have a better understanding of the many possibilities in the psychology department.

L is for Leadership Development. Most of my leadership is demonstrated during my summer job at home. Over the summer, I am a camp counselor at the French American Academy, a bilingual school from Pre-K to eighth grade. This summer I was given many responsibilities; specifically, I was in charge of group activities for the Pre-K children. Additionally, I was asked to be the head after-care counselor when necessary. During these times, I would have to conduct activities, enhance the weekly themes, and supervise all the children, alone, under my watch. Although I have not yet participated in a similar opportunity at Ohio State, I certainly plan on using my skills and applying them to another leadership opportunities here perhaps related to my major.

S is for Service and Engagement. The day I arrived on campus, I attended a psychology meet and greet. I am eager to participate in activities that educate me on my career path, open new doors, and ultimately offer experience out of the classroom. I hope to be able to work in underprivileged communities specifically in underprivileged schools where I can work one-on-one with children. I intend to get involved in service projects during my time here at Ohio State.
