Who I Am

My name is Andrew Gochenaur. I am currently a Freshman at THE Ohio State University, and I intend on pursuing a degree in Political Science. I come from the city of Dayton, Ohio, where I have spent the entirety of my life and received my education. My dream is to one day hold elected office in the United States, with the power and influence to make policy decisions and help resolve both domestic and international conflicts with compromise. I want to protect those who cannot protect themselves, and to explore the world in what little time I have to enjoy it. I want to climb mountains, explore the cosmos, sail the seas, soar through the skies and touch the minds and souls of every person I meet along the way. I want to experience every ounce of joy, sadness, fear, ecstasy, excitement and love that this world has to offer. I want to be remembered as a pioneer of peace and justice, someone who did what few could do so that the human race could be better for it.

This is who I am.

Who are you?

Year in Review

This past year has been a mixture of highs and lows, but nevertheless a wealth of useful experience. The following are my year-in-review responses to G.O.A.L.S. :

GLOBAL AWARENESS
– This was perhaps the area that I most excelled in this past year. Not only have I completed a minor in German, but I also attended a 2-month Study Abroad trip to Germany, which further broadened my international experience. My studies in Political Science have continued to expose me to international perspectives and ideas.

ORIGINAL INQUIRY
– This has definitely been a challenging GOAL to meet this semester. The temptation to rely on formulaic responses to creative writing assignments and in-class discussions is very tempting. Nevertheless, I strive to add something new to every conversation and to ignore my own biases.

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT
– My passion to learn has not diminished over the past year. I cannot express enough my desire to actually learn from the classes I am taking, as opposed to just make the grade. The tremendous variation of classes I have had the privilege to take here at OSU have yet to disappoint me.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
– My passion to be a world leader is still as strong as ever. This past year was very important to my formulation of a future career path. I endeavor now to become a leading member of the Civil Service, and to eventually serve my country as an elected or appointed official within the government.

SERVICE ENGAGEMENT
– This is the area that I most struggle with, as the rigors of college rarely offer my time to become engaged in service. I have made sufficient plans for the coming Summer, however, to become more involved in service opportunities.
