About Me

Hi, my name is Samuel Gens. I was born and raised in Andover, Massachusetts. As an undergraduate at the Ohio State University I plan to studying Aerospace Engineering. I partake in the Varsity Pistol team where I shoot precision guns and try to get the best score I can possibly get while improving my skills.

I am the person making the H of Ohio, these are some of my new teammates who will shoot with me for the next 4 years here.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Delete these instructions and add your own post.

Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc .
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.

Artifacts

This video is of a homemade rocket made of a PVC pipe and cap. The fuel is made of a mixture of sugar and potassium nitrate, the oxidizer. This video was taken in a small town located in Missouri before college started when I was visiting a friend Anthony and his friend Phil who lit the fuse. The rocket was created to more or less have fun during the day, but it also interested me as my pre-major is aerospace engineering at Ohio State. While creating these rockets I learned that many things go into the effect of how a rocket works. For example, you can’t just create a very large rocket as the weight of the fuel and other materials will be too heavy and will not produce enough lift to have it take off. I got to learn how basic solid rocket “motors” work which was really cool as they were used on the retired space shuttles in order to bring equipment and supply’s to the international space station. This is important to me as it signifies when I am experimenting as a “rocket scientist” and it is the experience that propels me to study aerospace engineering.
