Farm Talk Breakfast: Save the date for May’s Farm Talk Breakfast program on May 19th at 8:30 a.m. at the Extension Operations Building on Wolf Run Rd. The topic will be “Changes to Antibiotic Access for Livestock” with guest commentator- Dr. John Groah of Morgan Veterinary Service. The program is free to attend, but RSVPs are required by May 15. The Caldwell Community Seed Library: The Caldwell Community Seed Library Program will host their third meeting of 2023 on Companion Plantings from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 at the Noble County Extension Office. RSVP by calling 740-732-5681 or emailing gelley.2@osu.edu. The Caldwell Community Seed Library is a partnered program with the Caldwell Public Library, the Jon N. Bates Memorial Little Free Library, and the Samaritan House to provide free access to seeds, gardening education, and ideas for ways to use fresh garden produce in your meals. The seed library features over 220 varieties of vegetable, fruit, and flowers that can be successfully grown in our community. We hope you will use the seed library as an opportunity to grow something that you have never tried before. The seed library officially opened on April 26, 2023 at all locations and will be restocked as supplies last.
Small Ruminant Parasite Workshop: Bargar Farm and The Ohio State University Extension will be hosting a small ruminant FAMACHA and integrated parasite management workshop on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. Participants will get hands on experience with parasite diagnostics and learn about parasite management in sheep and goats. FAMACHA certification will be offered from 9am-noon and participants will spend the afternoon from 1-3 p.m. conducting parasite egg counts. The workshop will be located at Bargar Farm, 36505, Deersville Road, Cadiz, OH. Cost of the workshop is $20 per person and includes lunch. Call OSU Extension at 740-264-2212 to register. Southeastern Ohio Hay Day: SAVE THE DATE- Southeastern Ohio Hay Day is returning for 2023 on July 14! This field day will offer demonstrations of hay harvesting equipment, tradeshow exhibits, educational presentations, lunch, and door prizes. Admission is free and open to the public. For accommodation purposes, registration is appreciated by July 11, but walk-ins are also welcome. We look forward to welcoming you to the Eastern Agricultural Research Station on Friday, July 14, 2023. Registration- 9 a.m., Program Content- 10 a.m., Conclusion- 4 p.m.

New Pesticide Applicators: New Pesticide Applicators interested in becoming licensed can book testing dates online at locations around Ohio or at the Ohio Department of Agriculture testing location in Reynoldsburg. (https://agri.ohio.gov/divisions/plant-health/pesticides/exam-registration) Study materials to prepare for the test are available through the county office. Call or stop in the pick up the materials you need for the categories you wish to be licensed in.
