General Overview
FOCUS (Females of Chemistry Uniting Scientists) would love to invite you to the 2024 FOCUS Research Symposium! The symposium will be held on March 21st and 22nd, 2024, and will include 3 student talks, a poster session, a career panel, and talks from 2 wonderful invited speakers, Dr. Angela Hight Walker from NIST and Dr. Nicole Goodwin from GSK.
Career Panel
A career panel that includes our invited speakers as well as a variety of young professional scientists will take place Thursday March 21st from 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm In Nosker Burgee Room (see Map Below). Following the career panel there will be a social hour from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the CBEC lobby where you can talk with the panelists and enjoy some snacks and beverages. The career Panelists include:

Dr. Erica Moscarello, Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Denison University
Meghan Shea, Life Sciences Consultant at Accenture
Poster Session Information
Student oral presentations will take place Friday, March 22nd from 10:00 am – 11: 30 in the Busch Valor Room (see Map Below). Presentations will be 15- 20 minutes long followed by ~ 5 minutes for questions.
10:00 – 10:30 am Alex Lovins, Hadad Lab “Structure Activity Relationship of 4-Amidophenol Quinone Methide Precursors: Effective Reactivators and Resurrectors of OP-inhibited/aged Cholinesterases”
10:30 – 11:00 am Aidan Greene, Greene Lab “Solid-State Phosphine Ligand Engineering via Postsynthetic Modification of Amine-Functionalized MOFs”
11:00 – 11:30 am Ipshita Roy, Nagib Lab “Chiral Pyrrolidine Synthesis via Iminyl-Radical Mediated C-H Amination”
Student Poster session will take place Friday, March 22nd from 12:30-2:30 pm in Blackburn Victory Room (see Map Below). The Columbus ACS chapter has generously sponsored the poster session which will include coffee and snacks as well as monetary prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place poster as well as an undergraduate specific award.
We have a total of 34 posters ranging from undergraduate presenters to postdoctoral presenters! Including topics ranging from Organic chemistry to Bioengineering. A complete list of authors and titles are included here and below.

Invited Speaker Talks
Following the poster session, there will be two, 1 hour long invited speaker talks in CBEC 130. The first talk will be from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm followed by a 15 minute snack/restroom break leading into the final event of the day, the second talk from 4:15 pm – 5:15 pm.
