About Me

Hi, my name is Norby Fischer. I am a first-year student at Ohio State University and I am majoring in Data Analytics. Currently, I am in the pre-Data Analytics major and once I pass Calculus 2 (with an A, fingers crossed), I should be accepted into the major. Where am I from? Hilliard, Ohio, about 20 minutes west of campus attending Hilliard Darby High School. I played volleyball my freshman year, lost interest going into my sophomore year and discontinued that. I might as well mention that I have played probably every sport at some time in my life, however my favorite is football… with a very deep passion (especially Ohio State football). However, something I did not quit from was marching band, in which I was a part of for all 4 years of high school. My freshman year, I played the vibraphone, sophomore year the marimba, and junior and senior year the snare drum, with my senior year including my role as section leader of the drumline (aka center snare). Marching band played a huge part of my life as I furthered my relationships with best friends, made new, awesome friends, and met my girlfriend. Band was like a family atmosphere.

I tried out for the OSU Marching Band on bass drum and barely missed out on making it (fingers crossed for next year). Although that was a frustration, the OSUMB is not my only goal here at Ohio State. I also dream of graduating with a 4.0, how realistic that is I will have to wait and see but I plan on doing my best for it. I would love to do some research and be mentored by a professor who analyzes data for sports (whether that be under an OSU professor or in the summers somewhere else). Another goal is to never miss a class. I have high expectations for myself and missing class(es) will not help myself achieve that goal. A large growth that I made in high school was through music, when I received the “Most Improved Junior Award” in band.

Am I coming into college with any credits? Yes, 28 to be exact. My junior and senior year of high school, I took classes through a program called College Jumpstart which was through Columbus State Community College. This amazing opportunity will hopefully allow me to finish in 3 years and then move on to a Masters in Data Analytics.

I have been to Columbia, South Carolina, Kenosha, Wisconsin, El Timal, Nicaragua, and San Lucas, Guatemala. I have also ran a half-marathon at the age of 11 in 2:21.21. A few last things that I should probably add for the “academic autobiography” part of this is that I graduated with Honors and in the top 12% of my class.
