In the Child Emotional Development Lab, we study developmental changes in children’s emotional and cognitive regulation and the impact of parenting and other factors in the family context. We are particularly interested in children of depressed mothers, with regard to how mothers’ depression and related affect, behavior, and cognition influence children’s emotional and cognitive regulation and subsequent adjustment outcomes. We are also interested in examining whether improving the quality of mother-child emotional exchange and child emotion regulation may reduce the risk for adverse outcomes in children of depressed mothers.
