A. User Manual

When the game is loaded onto the Proteus controller, the user is prompted with three options on the screen.

  • Start Game
  • Statistics
  • Instructions

This game is controlled entirely with the touch screen of the Proteus controller. The user may select any of these options by touching them directly on the screen. The functions of each option are detailed below.

Main Menu

Start Game
This option places the user into the main game. The screen consists of four differently colored boxes that will serve as the players prompts and inputs. The game will generate an increasing sequence of flashing lights in a random order. After each iteration of the sequence, the player must match the pattern of lights by touching the corresponding buttons on on the screen. The sequence will start with one flashing color, but the sequence will increase by one for each successful completion of the pattern. This will continue until the user fails to properly repeat the pattern. Then, the user’s score will be displayed and the user will be returned to the main menu.

Main Game

Statistics
This option takes the user to a screen that displays the running statistics of the user’s performance playing the game. This includes the following statistics.

  • High Score: The longest sequence that a user has successfully repeated
  • Plays: the number of times a user has played the game
  • Average Score: The typical length of a sequence that a user successfully inputs calculated by the mean of all scores

Instructions
This option takes a user to a page that displays instructions the explain to the user how to play the game. This information reads:

WHAT SIMON SAYS… YOU DO!
A light will flash. You must press it.
Two lights will flash. You must press them.
The pattern repeats. You must repeat it.

At the bottom of the instruction screen, credit information for the game is displayed.
